Amal Mitra (1910–1993), the distinguished literary figure, had an extensive knowledge of the renowned writers and actors of the Bengali stage for about fifty years. His remarkable understanding of 19th-century Bengali theatre is documented in his pioneering work in Bengali, "Kolkatae Videshi Rangalay." He shared a close friendship with Sisir Kumar Bhaduri, and his series of articles on Bhaduri are noteworthy. Additionally, Mitra wrote scholarly articles on Rabindranath Tagore, leading to the publication of an expanded version by the Tagore Research Institute. His books on Bengali theatre continue to be highly regarded and are included as reference material in the syllabus of Master's degree programs in Bengali at Calcutta University and Rabindra Bharati University.
