Vidya Pai stumbled on to the field of translation with the Konkani award at the Katha-British Council Translation contest in 1993. She has translated eight Konkani novels and many short stories for anthologies published by leading publishers like Katha, Oxford University Press, Harper Perennial, Sahitya Akademi, National Book Trust, Qurate Books and the World Konkani Centre, Mangaluru.
