Sukhendu Ray
Sukhendu Ray is an English translator of Bengali literature. He qualified as a Chartered Accountant in England in 1950 and spent his professional career with the British multinational Guest Keen Williams Ltd., retiring as its Managing Director and Chief Executive. Following his corporate career, he turned to literary translation, focusing on bringing important works of Bengali literature to English readers. His work reflects a careful engagement with language and narrative, helping preserve the literary and cultural qualities of the original texts. Among his translations is Bipradas: The Man Who Would Walk Alone by Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay, a significant Bengali novel that he rendered into English, making it accessible to a wider audience beyond its original language.
