Sarojini Naidu
Sarojini Naidu (1879–1949) was one of India’s most celebrated poets and a leading figure in the Indian freedom movement. Known as the “Nightingale of India,” her poetry is noted for its lyrical style and deep engagement with Indian themes, landscapes and traditions. Alongside her literary career, she played a significant role in public life, becoming the first woman President of the Indian National Congress and later the first woman Governor of an Indian state. Her work and legacy continue to occupy a central place in both Indian literature and modern Indian history.
