Sarojesh Mukerjee
Sarojesh Mukerjee is a historian and educationist whose work focuses on colonial and early modern India, with particular attention to the emergence of modern education and intellectual culture. His research explores how institutions, ideas, and individuals shaped India’s transition into a modern, secular society. He is best known for his detailed study of David Hare, one of the earliest architects of secular education in India, in which Mukerjee brings together archival research and historical narrative to illuminate the formative years of institutional learning in Bengal. His writing reflects a careful balance between rigorous scholarship and accessible storytelling, making complex historical developments readable for a wider audience.
