A
poet, journalist, critic, editor, a screenplay writer and a human
activist,ย Girdhar Rathiย is also a master translator of works
in different Indian languages into English. In 2010, he won the Bihari Puraskar
for his poetry collection,ย Anta ke Sanshaya. He has been the editor
of the Sahitya Academyยs Hindi journalย Samkaleen Bharatiya Sahityaย (1992ย2003)
andย Pratipaksh, managing editor of the international journalย Alternativesย (1978ย1991),
and editorial assistant forย China Reportย andย Janyug.ย His published works
include books of poetry (Baahar Bheetar, Uninde kee Loreeย andย Nimit),
of criticism, a travelogue (Naye Cheen mein Das Din) and a co-edited
publication (Survival: An Experienceย andย An Experiment in
Translating Modern Hindi Poetry) with another renowned poet, editor and
translator, Daniel Weissbort. Rathi has also translated and edited Hungarian plays
and poetry.ย
