Morarji Desai, India’s first non-Congress Prime Minister was a statesman who strode tall and erect on the vast stage of India’s political life for the major part of the 99 years that he lived. The only recipient of the highest civilian honour from both India and Pakistan – Bharat Ratna and Nishan-e- Pakistan – he strove during his tenure in office to bring about lasting peace between these two countries.
